Bias-Free Language

The APA 7th edition introduces a new chapter to the Publication Manual on bias-free language. APA is committed to the advancement of science and the fair treatment of individuals and groups and "emphasizes the need to talk about all people with inclusivity and respect".

This new chapter, Chapter 5 of the APA Publication Manual, 7th ed., (pp.130-149), offers an in-depth discussion on a variety of topic areas.

Below are links to the APA Blog section on bias-free language providing a language-use overview and preferred and problematic examples of language use for each of the categories.
