Implementing Academic Accommodations

A guide for course instructors/departments/schools on implementing common academic accommodations in post secondary

Computer Accommodation

Why do some students have an accommodation to use a computer in exams?

Barriers to seeing, writing, reading and organizing information typically are reduced through use of a computer with assistive technology software.

Where can students access assistive technology software?

Students are responsible for booking their exams with assistive tech software with CAL. CAL has dedicated computers with this software in the exam centre that students use. Access to these computers is controlled by CAL staff and files used for exams are provided directly by invigilators.

Do CAL exam computers have access to network or internet resources?

CAL exam computers are monitored throughout exams by invigilation staff through ABTutor and in person to ensure students are not accessing unauthorized resources through the network or online to ensure academic integrity.
