This paper explains the principle of restorative justice as a means of resolving disputes, describes the process, and outlines the main models of the restorative justice program in use today. A section on lessons learned deals with such issues as coercion, emotion, the need for an alternative to the adversarial process, restorative justice and the living law, evaluation, and the role of community. A final chapter looks at how society can move from restorative justice to transformative justice.

The Canadian Restorative Justice Consortium promotes Restorative Justice at the national level and supports Restorative Justice practitioners, programs, agencies and networks/associations.

The European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) is an international network organisation connecting members active in the field of restorative justice as practitioners, academics and policy makers throughout Europe and beyond. We promote research, policy and practice development so that every person may have access to high quality restorative justice services, at any time and in any case.

Every day is predictable at Bowden Institution, a medium-security prison near Red Deer, Alta, where routines are highly regimented. But things are different on the Pathways unit at Bowden. It's a program designed by Correctional Services Canada for Indigenous offenders who are serious about pursuing their healing journey, aimed at reducing Indigenous overrepresentation in Canada's prison system.

This documentary profiles the tiny Ojibway community of Hollow Water on the shores of Lake Winnipeg as they deal with an epidemic of sexual abuse in their midst. The offenders have left a legacy of denial and pain, addiction and suicide. The Manitoba justice system was unsuccessful in ending the cycle of abuse, so the community of Hollow Water took matters into their own hands. The offenders were brought home to face justice in a community healing and sentencing circle. Based on traditional practices, this unique model of justice reunites families and heals both victims and offenders. The film is a powerful tribute to one community's ability to heal and create change.
