Community Stories 2022: CFCS 141 Student Project Event

Thank you!

Thank you to everyone who participated and contributed to this event and its success!

How Does this Event Work?

All of our speakers are volunteers from our community with lived experience on the topic they are speaking about.  To participate, register for one or more speakers to hear their story in a 20-minute conversation session. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email with more details about the check-in process at the event. All conversation sessions take place at Lansdowne library. The event will also have an official opening with an introduction to the event and speakers at 1pm that everyone is welcome to attend--no registration is required.

  • Each speaker has two time slots unless indicated as "1 session only". Be sure you are registering for your intended time slot
  • Each 20 minute conversation time slot has room for up to 3 listeners. The speaker will share their story and you will have a chance to engage in a conversation with them. If you are unsure what questions you could ask or how to ask them, refer to our guiding questions.

How to Register

Why a Community Stories Event?

What if 20 minutes can change the way you see your community? What if 20 minutes can make someone feel they belong? It all starts with a conversation. The Community Stories event has invited guest speakers from our community who belong to minority groups and often face stigma, bias, and discrimination to share their story in one-on-one and small group conversations. The conversations are not only providing an opportunity to learn about who lives in our community and the diversity we have but also to face our own biases and stigma. They aim to create connections and give people who are experiencing something similar a sense of togetherness and belonging. Register for one (or more!) 20 minute conversations.
