Terminology

Many terms are used to describe Indigenous peoples including Aboriginal, Native, Métis, Innu, First Nations and 'Native Americans'. Currently our English course is titled Indigenous Literature, so this guide uses the term Indigenous as its primary term.

Library records use various terms depending on the age and origin of the source. The use of outdated or offensive terminology (eg: indian) as search terms may be necessary depending on your research interests.
