Bill C-18

Bill C-18, also called the Online News Act, is a federal law that was passed in June 2023 limiting the ability for tech companies Meta (Facebook and Instagram) and Google to freely link to news from Canadian media outlets. Content and links created by Canadian broadcasters and publishers will no longer be supported by Meta (Facebook and Instagram) or Google to share Canadian news. Canadian news posts and shares will no longer be viewable by Canadians on these social media platforms.
