Why a specific guide for Google?

Whether or not you think that Google is "the best" search engine available, the reality is that Google is widely used by most students, staff and faculty at Camosun College.

This guide is meant to introduce you to some of Google's special features and services that can help make your research more effective. 

How does Google work?

Google algorithm

The Google algorithm is rumoured to consist of 200 different ranking factors by some SEOs. This is also disputed by other SEOs. Their ranking algorithm is not something that Google readily shares.

Google Adwords (AKA sponsored links)

These are ads paid for by businesses; they are not search results from Google's databases.  Companies pay Google each time someone clicks on their ads.
