Assignment Criteria

Conduct your search in Single SearchSPORTDiscus, CINAHL or Medline

Enter keywords for the topic you are researching and additional search concepts (a specific sport, activity, age group, etc.) to make your results more specific and relevant
Tip: put a phrase in quotes e.g., “lactic acid”

Then:

  • add study or trial as keywords
  • limit your search to “Academic journals”, scholarly or peer-reviewed
  • limit your search by publication date: Last 5 years
  • examine the Subject Headings listed for an article you think is relevant and do another search using those terms

What to look for

Clinical trials or studies will include all or most of the following headings in the article:

  • Introduction
  • Methods (or Research design or study design)
  • Results
  • Discussion or data analysis
  • Conclusion

There should be a clear description of the participants or test subjects.
Do NOT select a META-ANALYSIS or LITERATURE REVIEW for your article - though they can be good sources for discovering individual studies.
