Here are some tips to consider:
- Always use the student’s name when speaking to them
- Keep in mind that your student cannot see what you are writing on the board or referring to in your presentation slides
- Verbally describe all important visual content in slides and written work on board (including describing content in real time as you write it)
- Ensure there is a logical presentation order (avoid jumping back and forth, or explain if you do)
- Avoid last-minute additions to slides (notify student if slides are changed significantly)
- Ensure if there are hand outs in class they are provided to your student in electronic format, preferably before the class
- In labs, shops, studios, or other hands on environments label all equipment the student would use, including safety equipment with braille signage
- Consider an alternative assignment if your software applications are not accessible to screen-reading software
- If the student has a service animal, please review this guide
